Fred C. Reid got his start in soccer in 1977 as
an Under-8 player in the
Northeast Tulsa Soccer
Club. He came home with
a flyer from school
announcing fall
registration and, before
that first season was
complete, he was hooked
for life. He grew up
playing in the NETS club
mostly under the
coaching of his father,
Fred W. Reid, who,
incidentally, also
caught the addiction.
Fred also played for
Will Rogers High School
(his high school coach,
Brad Camp is also a
Tulsa United coach), and
became a referee in
1988. He eventually
served as both Area
Referee and Referee
Assignor for the NETS
club until the club
merged with Tulsa United
Soccer Club in 2005. He
then began refereeing
for TUSC as well as
coaching alongside his
father. Diagnosed with
cancer in 2009, Fred was
forced to take a year
off of playing and
coaching, but still put
in some time behind the
whistle when able
between treatments and
surgeries, and in the
fall of 2010, was back
to 100 per cent and
resumed a full
refereeing schedule. He
has also resumed playing
with his men's over-40
team and has no plans to
retire from playing or
refereeing anytime
soon. He enjoys helping
mentor new referees and
is regularly found at
the TUSC complex most of
the day every Saturday,
even when not scheduled
to officiate. He lives
in Jenks with his wife
Sherrie and their two
canine "children,"
Barkley and Betsy.
John Evans, TUSC
referee assignor says
"Fred is an outstanding
referee and really helps
mentoring to the younger
refs, he will oftentimes
asked referees situation
questions. Fred is a
great asset to our
club"
